Letter to the Editor
Dear Editor,
A month ago on January 12th, my father was involved in a medical emergency. Unaware of the severity of his problems when 911 was called, we consider ourselves very very lucky. We would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank all those involved in the survival of Dale Nanninga. First and foremost are the emergency medical technicians: Bill Conover and Brian Mentzer of Vistas' Taylor Street Fire Station (#3), whose quick arrival and calm professional response not only served my father well, but also helped keep family members cool headed in the time of emergency.
Also to be thanked is the entire emergency room staff at Tri-City hospital whose care and professional devotion saved my father who was minutes from death. Dr. Gruber, Dr. Deemer, Mary Vollmer, and all the ICU nurses clearly understood the needs of the rest of our family, as our father was under intensive care. Special recognition also goes to Warren Hume and Yoi Messersmith of patient affairs who were right there for my mother during the first hours of this crisis.
My fathers' misfortune was that he had an aneurysm in his aorta. According to the doctors, 40% of this kind of patients make it to the hospital, and only 10% make it out alive. My father, a thirty year resident of Vista has served his community in numerous ways. This is one instance where the community has served him. So for him, we the Nanninga family would like to thank the Vista Fire Department, the staff of Tri-City Hospital, and all our friends in the community who were there when we needed them most.
Sincerely Yours,
Robert T. Nanninga
