Forget Cheney. Impeach everyone.
Observations from the Edge
Robert T. Nanninga Coast News April 26, 2007
As the Bush administration implodes with rot, and the occupation of Iraq continues to bankrupt the US federal government of respect and money, it's hard to see Presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich's introduction of impeachment legislation against Vice President Dick Cheney as anything other than a well timed political stunt. Impeaching Cheney would do nothing in the larger scheme of things. Cheney is not the problem. He may be part of the problem, but he is not the whole problem. Dick is just a player, 30 years into the game. Sure, he is a war mongering mercenary, but then who isn't in the house of Bush. Kicking Cheney to the curb would be no more productive than giving Rumsfeld the boot. The current cast of corruption is only temporary, the corrupt process is ongoing. In less than two years Bush Incorporated will be replaced by another collection of corporate lawyers, lobbyists, and career politicians. Trying to impeach Cheney at this point would do nothing to mitigate the damage done by the Bush Administration. It's not like the most of the 7 billion people on the planet don't already recognize Dick Cheney as a greedy, unethical, dishonest, Machiavellian war monger. Cheney is only as bad as the government processes that allowed him to wreak havoc in the first place. Trying to impeach Cheney is the intellectual equivalent of blaming the weatherman for the rain. This, however, is not to say I would like to see Cheney swinging at the end of a rope Saddam style. Personally I think impeachment of Dick Cheney would be an insult to the men and women who gave life and limb to protect the Bush Administration's oil interests in the middle east. Dick Cheney and all his accomplices and co-conspirators should be tried for crimes against humanity. As an advocate of California secession I believe it is in the best interests of California and Californians to disengage from the federation of United States currently waging war on the people of Iraq and Afghanistan, and threatening war with Iran, Syria, and Pakistan. The US Federal government is now nothing more than a melange of corporate interests dominated by munition manufacturers and extractive interests. Clean air and water has never been a top priority of beltway bureaucrats. Population stabilization, biodiversity, and ecological sustainability have always been subverted in the name of shortsighted economic gain. Removing Cheney from office will change nothing. It is time for California to remove itself from a Union that no longer serves it best interests. Californian needs control over it's borders. California needs control of it's natural resources and public wild lands. Californians need to stop subsidizing Washington war mongers. California needs to be free to go it's own way, and seek other alliances in the world. California needs to free itself. California needs to impeach the US federal government. |
